Join me at Paintbox, the award winning Art School by the Sea!
Perched right on the East Lothian coast just outside Edinburgh, Paintbox Art School is based in the historic Cockenzie House. The fabulous, fully equipped studio is the perfect base for a worshop on letting loose and developing your skill in translating the world around you in an explosion of colour!
2nd and 3rd May 2026 Colourful Coast SOLD OUT
The coast isn’t just a view – it’s an experience. It’s the movement of the sea, the sound of the waves, the taste of salt in the air. Join Jo Perkins for a weekend of expressive, colourful painting to explore what the coast means to you.
6th and 7th June 2026 Abstracting the Summer Garden SOLD OUT
With a focus on light, colour, texture and movement, the workshop will explore ways to loosen up and step towards abstraction.
Working in vibrant colour and energetic, loose mark making, you will start to discover your own visual language with which to express your experience of the summer Garden.

29th June - 2nd July 2026 The Expressive Summer Garden
The abundance of flowers and foliage at this time of year is always a joy to experience, and this course is all about expressing those feelings in paint! Gathering inspiration from both the gardens around Paintbox and from our own images, we will explore how to capture the experience of being surrounded by flowers. Through exploring colour, texture and mark, this week will take a mixed media approach to create vibrant, abundant paintings that not only describe the environment around us but express how it feels to be there!

Painting Holidays In France
Treat yourself with a trip to 'La Salle' in the Gers region of France for a fun week of painting and indulgent holiday-ing. Hosted by the fabulous Jill and Terry, come and enjoy this hidden gem in the French countryside. There is a gorgeous well equipped air-conditioned studio set in their lovely garden with pool (for those cooling off dips). 7th - 14th May 2026 Abstract Florals
Join me for a week of bountiful, beautiful flowers! Using acrylic and other media we will develop our understanding of colour mixing and mark marking with the view to create joyful, colourful floral paintings filled with expression.
22nd - 29th September 2026 Colouring the Landscape
Explore the landscape, loosen up your technique and play with colour! Using acrylic and other media, we will be using the countryside around us for inspiration. We will experiment with expressive mark making and let loose with colour!

Starts 24th February 2026 'Letting Loose: Having fun with Paint' - a six week course
What better way to spend your Tuesdays than playing with paint?
​
Over six weekly classes, we will sling, scribble, smoosh, stick and scrape and make a whole lot of mess in the process. We are going to experiment and explore with paint, collage and other media to let go of tightness and have some fun!
​
This course is perfect for shrugging off the winter, letting go of some painterly inhibitions and trying some new techniques and materials. Each week we will explore a different way of creating - mark making, colour, collage, large brushes, mixing media and finish off with what I call 'kitchen sink' creativity when we throw it all together! Perfect for any stage of your artistic journey.

7th and 8th March 2026 Colourful Collage Flowers
Making your own collage papers is such a satisfying process. A mixture of playing with colour, texture and mark to create truly personal papers to make truly personal collage paintings.
​
Working from your imagination, from photos or from life (I will bring flowers!), you will then explore ways to use collage. Either as the main component in your paintings, combined with line, used for texture or added as highlights... the list is endless and worth exploring!

23rd and 24th May 2026 Colourful Landscapes
This weekend will guide you towards a more bold and confident (maybe even outrageous?) use of colour in your landscape paintings!
​
Fill your horizons with colour! Peach beaches, Magenta hills, Cornflower blue grasses with sundried Saffron fields, Tangerine Skies and Aubergine shadows.... so much to discover!

This weekend will be all about playing and exploring your own self expression - what marks feel good, what colour feels right?
